Few memories stay in our mind forever , I still remember the days when we used to come home from school and mom will fry these chips for us ….sis and I used to enjoy it hot and today after years I felt the same ….came back from school to see mom frying them ….my next question was mom , have I posted this one , she said no and I was like how did I forget this classic recipe ….the reason we don’t make them often is because slicing or cutting yam takes little extra time but each time it is made we gobble them and refuse to share with others and now it’s nice to see our kids enjoy it
I was glad mom made loads of them as we ate it happily with no tension that other person will eat our share … I would say best way to introduce yam to kids as they will eat it with no fuss as for them its chips …..
These chips go best with lemon rice or coconut rice
- Yam or Suran – 500 gms
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Water – 2 cups
- Oil for Frying
- Peel the skin and slice the yam , little thick than chips .Boil water add turmeric and salt ,once the water boils add the yam ad cook for 10 minutes ( do not over cook and it will break to pieces)
- Cool the yam and strain the water .Heat oil and add the yam in batches and deep fry them till its done .
Note : You can add 1/2 tsp chilli powder but in original recipe only turmeric powder is added and ensure that yam in cut properly.
It takes 25 minutes to make this chips ( peeling and cutting time of yam not included )
