Potato and Peas Podimass ( potato and peas dry curry )

This recipe is shared to me by my mom and I am proud to share it with you all … She has been making for us for years and it was shared to her by a chef , who cooks for South Indian weddings and each time she used to make it , we would end up fighting as it was never enough for us and today we were totally confused on what to cook for lunch that goes well with rice and sambar plus another task was that we should make something that will be loved by kids and they eat with no fuss . That’s when Seema remembered about this dish and told it’s been long that mom made it for us … That’s when I remembered that I never shared this recipe on my page

We enjoyed our lunch and best was reviving our childhood memories …another thing was kids liking it and asking for more which validated that mom recipes are the best as they are made with the best ingredient called love

Ingredients

  • Potato – 250 gms ( cut into bite size pieces )
  • Peas – 50 gms
  • Chopped onion – 1
  • Chopped tomato – 1
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1/2 tsp
  • Chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. In a deep bottom pan add oil then add curry leaves , asafoetida , mustard seeds , once it crackle add onions and saute till golden brown then add ginger garlic paste
  2. Cook for a minute then add tomato and rest of the spices and salt and cook till oil comes out of the mixture
  3. Add peas and chopped potato , and reduce the flame to medium low , cover with lid and let it cook for 20 to 25 minutes till the potato is well cooked
  4. Don’t add water , and scrape out when the potato mixture that sticks to the bottom of the pan
  5. Serve hot with rice and sambar or with chapati

Note : you can make sandwiches with remaining mixture
You can add chopped carrot and beans along with peas

I took 35 minutes to make this dish
