This year India trip has made a change in our life style…..Dad high cholesterol level made us decide to include more vegetarian dishes at home and best thing was our kids support on this and when we were discussing what to make for dinner with kids that’s when my niece Refa told sis to make this dish and told me mom makes it the best….Seema had learnt this recipe from her neighbour 9 years back and makes it often for her kids and I have never tasted it ( we both were surprised on it ) …what I liked there was no complication in this recipe and the other side dish that is made along with zeera aloo is simple moong daal and they both taste best with chapati ….
When I tasted these potatoes ,was amazed with simple flavour of cumin and green chili that gave a unique taste to this dish never thought dishes would taste so good without adding any spices …I made paratha rolls for Rayyan and he loved it ……
- Chopped Potato – 4 ( cut it into cubes )
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp ( you can add more if you want more flavour of cumin )
- Chopped Green chillies – 2
- Roasted cumin powder – 1/4 tsp
- Chopped coriander – 2 tbsp
- Oil – 3 tbsp ( add less if you are cooking in non stick )
- Salt to taste
In a non stick pan add oil ,then add cumin seeds ,once it splutters add green chili ,fry for few seconds and then add chopped potatoes and salt .
Keep the flame medium low , cover and cook the potatoes and every five 5 minutes ,toss them ( never use spoon ) .These potatoes take 20 minutes to cook ( Don’t bother if it sticks a little in the pan ,it gives extra taste . )
When they are almost done ,sprinkle roasted cumin powder for extra flavour and serve with chapati
You can make Sandwich with this filling ,just add cheese on it
Mash these potato and it can be used to make filling for Aloo paratha
Fill these potatoes in the paratha along with tomato ketchup and make rolls
It takes 30 minutes to make this dish
Happy cooking ….
