Besan ka halwa ( Gram flour sweet )

Besan ka halwa ( Gram flour sweet )

Some recipes take you by surprise and this one is for sure one of them , In one of the foodie what’s app group , a friend posted the pic of this halwa and the look was soooo tempting and was amazed by the texture , when asked was her for the recipe , I was bit confused as it had egg and then milk …..total mismatch I felt but couldn’t stop myself from making it immediately and decided only to make half the quantity so that if no one eats , I won’t feel very bad.The aromatic fragrance of the flour getting roasted in Ghee  made Haseeb , Rayyan and mom come to the kitchen asking what I was making , Rasha helped me beat the egg and milk mixture ,as I didn’t want to leave the flour while roasting it
when I served it , Rayyan tasted and asked if I was making for the first time and it tasted toooo good for the first try and asked if I could make some pooris so that he can enjoy the halwa with it , next was mom she too loved and went for second helping which is rare thing to happen in my house …..I was glad I tried it and best was there was no egg smell which did make me very happy .

Ingredients

  • Besan or gram flour – 1/2 cup
  • Sugar – 1/2 cup
  • Ghee – 1/2 cup
  • Egg – 1
  • Milk – 1/2 cup
  • Saffron – a pinch ( optional) I added it
  • Cardamom powder – 2 pinch
  • Sliced Almond – as required

Directions

  1. . In a pan add ghee and besan , roast in slow flame till the raw smell goes and it takes about 7 minutes ( Don’t burn the besan )
  2. In a bowl add egg and sugar and beat with the beater till it’s fluffy then add milk , cardamom powder , saffron and mix well
  3. Once Besan is roasted add the milk mixture in three parts and start roasting the halwa, till it dries out totally ( 5 to 10 minutes the consistency depends on you )
  4. Add the nuts and serve

Note : I like the halwa dry but sis said next time to leave little moisture so according to your family preferences you can adjust the cooking time of the halwa
I took 24 minutes to make the halwa
Happy cooking
